Wool sheds, milking sheds, hay sheds, tool sheds, kind-of-wonky sheds, three sided, two sided, no sided. The familiar form of the corrugated iron shed is synonymous with rural Aotearoa.

It’s the combination of both material and simplicity of form that contribute to the classic vernacular, and one that the clients for this project really wanted to explore.

Situated on a rural site in the Wairarapa, the ‘S’ shaped floor plan is one room wide and 128 square meters. Covered by a wide gabled roof that has been clipped off at each end, the roof folds down to cover a patio tucked in under each side.

Large sliding doors connect the outdoor sheltered spaces with the living to capture the views and sun, while also providing much needed protection from the wind whichever way it's blowing!
